It's a lot of work.
Hours of planning and preparing.
But it is worth it.
We use it as a kick-off celebration for state assessments.
Lots of math, lots of review,
Lots of fun.
We kick off the day with the choir singing Pi Day songs.
Students participate in various review sessions.
Like Jeopardy...
or a battleshipship type game, Capture the Quadrilateral.
A fun carnival in the gym allows students to practice their probability skills.
And what is a carnival without prizes? We had over 220 prizes this year!

During the week prior to Pi Day, students participate in a Math Spirit week dressing up for Shape Day, Parallel/Perpendicular Day, Similar Day, and Number Day.
We also have a contest for students to memorize digits of pi. In 2007, the record was set at 54 digits. It was broke in 2009 with 80 digits. This year the record was shattered and now stands at 182 digits!
All the students that participated in memorizing the digits of pi.
After lunch, students switch. Those in the carnival go to the review games and vice versa.
Students get into the spirit with homemade t-shirts to celebrate the day!
